SafeSport
The SafeSport certificate is the standard for all youth sports with a national governing body (major sports). It is good for one year and after that there is a short refresher that will renew the certificate each year.
All adults who interact with players on behalf of Newton Girls Softball are required to complete the national SafeSport certification. You can take it on-line at your convenience, and start, stop, and start again as you like until you complete it.
We only have to take the initial course one time. It takes a little bit of time (about 2 hours), maybe more than what might be ideal for our rec program - but this is a national standard for all youth sports. Most of the videos are short, 2-4 minutes, and there are short scenarios. It is easy to stop and come back anytime.
It can cost $20 but it is free to us by going through USA Softball. You register with USA Softball at no charge and go directly to the SafeSport site to create an account entering in your USA Softball ID#. Then you can immediately start the class and complete it with or without taking breaks and coming back to it when it's convenient.
