Newton Girls Softball plans on enrolling teams at each age group in Charles River Softball League and/or Tournaments this fall. 

The Charles River Softball League consists of Sunday morning games, primarily double-headers. It runs from early September, after school starts, through the end of October. 2023 dates are 9/10, 9/17, 9/24, 10/1, 10/15, and 10/22.

We will also have Tournament teams at the 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, and 18U levels, pending interest. We will not host tryouts for the fall tournament teams--all selections will be made based on coaches' evaluations of the player's performance this summer. We will likely play in 2-4 tournaments this fall, from early September to late October. The structure is very similar to summer tournaments--full days Saturday, play till we lose Sunday.  There will be an additional cost for tournament players charged once we know the number and cost of tournaments.

Please note when signing up that the 2024 season begins officially September 1, 2023, so athletes age up at that time. There are changes to the age cut offs for the 2024 season. The guidelines are as follows:

8U -- 9/1/2014 through 8/31/2016

10U -- 9/1/2012 through 8/31/2014

12U -- 9/1/2010 through 8/31/2012

14U -- 9/1/2008 through 8/31/2010

16U -- 9/1/2006 through 8/31/2008 

18U -- 9/1/2004 through 8/31/2006

NGS will again be offering pitching clinics this winter. There will be three six-week sessions on Sunday evenings at the West Newton YMCA. Pitchers will be grouped in classes of seven according to experience and ability.

We have limited availability for these sessions. Prior to August 27th priority will be given to pitchers returning from last winter. After that, it will be first-come first-served with a waiting list. Unlike in years past, ALL three sessions are now open and you can sign up for one, two, or all three sessions.

DATES:

- SESSION 1: Sept 17; Oct. 1, 15, 22, 29; Nov. 5

- SESSION 2: Nov. 12, 19; Dec. 3, 17: Jan 7, 21

- SESSION3: Jan. 28; Feb. 4, 25; March 3, 10, 17

- Snow days: March 24, 31

WHEN/WHERE: 6 or 7 pm at the West Suburban YMCA. Your time slot will be determined by what class your child is in.

WHO: The teachers will again be Brandice and Shannon from Planet FastPitch.

CATCHERS: Your pitcher will need a catcher. Those under 18 can get in some extra catching practice, but they need to wear at least a catcher’s helmet. If your child needs a catcher, talk to us.

COST: $295 per player per session of 6 weeks

MORE ABOUT THE COSTS: The YMCA and PFP set their rates. NGS does not. We collect the money and pass it along – we cannot offer refunds, but you can find somebody to “buy” your slot if your plans change. NGS contributes a subsidy to reduce the price and encourage more players to take pitching lessons. More good pitchers = more fun for our program. If you need help with costs, please reach out.
